I'm Jess. I have been a self-taught artist for two decades but recently returned to school at UMaine to pursue a Baccalaureate of Fine Arts. I look forward to exploring new mediums in school and seeing the changes it affects on my style. My current body of work is mainly acrylic paintings, with a few forays into oils, found object sculpture, and digital photo manipulation, to name a few. I enjoy delightful departures from reality and often side-step rules and guidelines, seeking to create intuitive works with deep emotional resonance. My works are full of movement and energy, and the occasional touch of magic, embracing themes such as the beauty of nature, the nature of being human and the divine feminine. I live and work from my home, in the tippity top of Washington County. My wife and I enjoy a quiet life, kept interesting by a menagerie of pets, including cats, dogs and chickens. Short summer months are chock full of gardening, kayaking, hiking and swimming. (And scooping up great reference photos!) Long, dark, winter months afford ample time for creation. I enjoy working in vivid colors, and in winter it often feels like manifesting sunshine. I hope you’ll find as much joy in my work as I do!
