My paintings are colorful yet calming representations of places and things I have a connection to.
Edward Hopper said it very aptly, "If you could say it in words, there would be no reason to paint." I find it exciting and challenging to be able to express how I see the world visually. The process of seeing and then being able to filter what I see in a two-dimensional format is an emotional experience I cannot imagine doing without.
Photographing what I see is an important part of my process and because I am a studio painter I often use other tools such as Photoshop to manipulate the images I take to achieve the composition, lighting and color architecture that will work best for my paintings.
My medium of expression is, for the most part, oil paints but I do, at times branch out and use other mediums such as watercolors, gouache, as well as dabbling in linocut printmaking.
